Here’s a really exotic-looking hardy perennial! Peony ‘Border Charm’ boasts lightly fragrant, semi-double blooms of the palest yellow which are splashed with coral at the base of each petal. Often called an Itoh Peony, these eye-catching varieties are bred to combine the exotic good looks of tree peonies with the herbaceous growth habit of herbaceous peonies – giving the best of both worlds! These showy beauties will flower freely from late spring making a lovely addition to perennial borders and large containers. Bees and other pollinating insects love peonies and will visit them busily all summer long. Height: 80cm (31in). Spread: 90cm (36in). Supplied as bare root plants.

Caution: All parts of Peonies are harmful if eaten. Grow peonies in sun or semi shade, in well drained soil. Peonies prefer a rich fertile soil, so add plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Plant herbaceous peonies at a depth of around 5cm (2”) below the soil surface. Planting too deeply may delay flowering.

These plants are lifted from the nursery field when dormant, and sent to you in late autumn or spring for planting. They often look dead on arrival, but they are just resting in the dormant period and will establish quickly for a strong start in the garden come spring. Set out in prepared soil in holes wide enough and deep enough to lay out the roots. Tread down the planting soil to knock out air pockets. Water well to settle. Apply a mulch to protect roots from cold temperatures. If conditions prevent immediate planting, set roughly into loose soil or a pot of compost (‘heeling in’) to protect the roots. The growth points of most bare root perennials should be set about an inch below the soil surface. New growth will appear in spring.

Feed and water regularly until peony plants are fully established. Remove faded peony flowers and cut back old foliage in autumn. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant.
